When arranging a funeral in Israel from abroad the following considerations should be addressed

  • If death occurs outside of Israel, and the deceased is a non-Israeli citizen, there should be a repatriation-capable funeral home that will prepare the body for transportation including all required documents for travel (a death certificate in English, passport, transport documents)
  • In Israel, a funeral home (like ourselves ) will be the receiving party of the “shipment” – we release the coffin from the port, issue a burial permit from the Ministry of health and transport the body to a cooling facility and later on to the cemetery where the funeral will be conducted

Burial in Israel – there are two leading options for burial in Israel.
1. Traditional Jewish burial where a plot is acquired in a traditional Jewish cemetery, a traditional Jewish funeral (Burying the dead in the ground wrapped in shrouds – not in a casket) is conducted and later on a gravestone is placed on the grave
2. Civil burial in Israel allows a bit more flexibility with the funeral arrangements – the family can choose between a casket and shrouds wrapping, between a traditional funeral ceremony and one that they have more say regarding speakers, content and who manages the ceremony. There are a small amount of cemeteries that provide civil burial services.
We assist the families in understanding the different options, making the choice regarding the acquisition of the burial plot – either ahead of time or in the time of need, acquiring the plot on their behalf and making all the funeral arrangements when the time comes.
